Imphal: The Congress high command appointed Nameirakpam Loken Singh as the interim President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) official release said on Saturday.

The decision comes after the resignation of party leader Govindas Konthoujam as the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president on July 16.

As per source, Manipur CM N. Biren Singh told to some of the party’s MLAs that at least six Congress MLA’s including Govindas Konthoujam will be joining the ruling BJP.

However, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Bhakta Charan Das stated that no Congress MLA had joined the ruling BJP but some MLAs can leave the party with Govindas Konthoujam.
