Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat's Dwarka on Sunday. He said, “Delighted to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu today - a bridge that connects lands and people. It stands vibrantly as a testament of our commitment to development and progress.”

The Rs 979 crore 'Sudarshan Setu' has linked the islands of Beyt Dwarka and Okha. In October 2017, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the 2.3 km bridge, stating that it would connect the old and modern Dwarka.

The Prime Minister also visited the Dwarkadhish Temple, where he laid the foundation stone for several development projects in Dwarka that will cost over Rs. 4,150 crore. Among these is AIIMS Rajkot, one of the six new AIIMS dedicated to the country.

“Sudarshan Setu, inaugurated by PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji-an infrastructural masterpiece connecting Okha to Beyt Dwarka, a symphony of progress and pride,” says Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India.

According to PIB, Sudarshan Setu has a distinctive design, with pictures of Bhagwan Krishna and lines from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita adorning the walkway on both sides. On the higher sections of the walkway, solar panels have also been installed, producing one megawatt of electricity.

“This bridge will facilitate travel and shorten the time it takes for devotees to get from Dwarka to Beyt-Dwarka. Pilgrims had to depend on boat transportation to go to Beyt Dwarka before the bridge's construction. This famous bridge will be one of Devbhumi Dwarka's main tourist attractions,” PIB reports.

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat and is expected to inaugurate multiple projects, including five super-speciality hospitals, at a cost of Rs 6,300 crore. He is also expected to take part in a mega roadshow in Dwarka this evening.
