Naseeruddin Shah has installed his Filmfare awards as washroom door handles; know why

Digital Desk: For the past few days, Naseeruddin Shah has been making headlines for his statements. The actor, who was most recently featured in Taj: Reign of Revenge, has never been shy about expressing his opinions. The actor recently discussed the pointlessness of contest-based prizes in an interview. He even asserted that he uses Filmfare Awards as door handles in his farmhouse's washroom!

Naseeruddin Shah once again makes a shocking claim in an interview with Lallantop. He reportedly uses Filmfare Awards as door handles. He said, "Any actor who has dedicated their life to playing a character is a fine actor. How is it fair if you simply choose one person from the group and declare them to be the year's best actor? I don't take pride in their awards. Even though I recently earned two prizes, I did not go collect them. So, I decided to place the medals there when I built a farmhouse. As the handles are created from Filmfare awards, anyone using the washroom will receive two awards each."

He added, "I don't see any use for these awards. When I first received them, I was happy however, soon piled up around me. Sooner or later, I understood that these awards are a result of lobbying. These awards are given even though they may not be merit-based. So I started to leave them behind. My departed father used to worry constantly about my profession and say things like, "If you do this useless work, you will become a fool," so when I earned the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, it reminded me of him. So, when I went to Rashtrapati Bhavan to collect my awards, I looked up and asked my father whether he was witnessing everything. He was thrilled, and I have no doubt that he was happy, just as I was to win those awards. But I can’t stand these competitive awards.”

Recently, Naseeruddin Shah called the success of The Kerala Story a "dangerous trend" in an exclusive interview with India Today. He stated, "On the one hand, there is no denying that this trend is dangerous. We seem to be moving in the direction of Nazi Germany, where the supreme commander coerced or attempted to coerce filmmakers to produce films that praised him and what he had accomplished for the people while demonising the Jewish community. So many talented German filmmakers left their home country to work in Hollywood. The same thing appears to be taking place here. Either stay on the right side, be neutral or pro-establishment.”
