  • The North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS) has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral assessment in flood-hit Upper Assam to identify critical needs for long-term recovery and rehabilitation

GUWAHATI, August 2, 2026 – As communities in Upper Assam grapple with the aftermath of recent devastating floods, the North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS) has initiated a comprehensive Multi-Sectoral Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA). This crucial exercise aims to pinpoint priority requirements for robust recovery, rehabilitation, and building long-term resilience across affected regions.

The Jorhat-based humanitarian and development organization is deploying its teams in some of the hardest-hit areas of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts. This assessment follows initial rapid needs evaluations conducted during the immediate emergency phase, now seeking to offer a more granular understanding of the floods' enduring impact on the ground.

Multidisciplinary teams from NEADS are actively visiting villages, engaging directly with families to meticulously document losses, ascertain community-specific priorities, and identify the precise support mechanisms needed for effective recovery. The extensive scope of the assessment encompasses vital sectors including housing and shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health and nutrition, food security, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, livelihoods, education, and protection concerns.

This in-depth study is expected to provide invaluable data that will guide targeted interventions and strategic planning, ensuring that recovery efforts are tailored to the actual needs of the flood-affected populace in Upper Assam.
