Digital Desk: A case of gang rape has been filed against Mahendra Choudhary, the former municipal council commissioner, and Mahendra Mevada, the head of the Sirohi Municipal Council in Rajasthan.
They are being accused of gang raping about twenty women under the guise of providing employment in Anganwadi.
The incident came to light after a woman from Pali district went to the police and claimed that the accused lured her and about twenty other women with job prospects.
Shockingly, the victims claim the assaults were recorded, and they were subsequently blackmailed with threats of public exposure unless they paid hefty sums of money.
According to the complainant, the women, seeking better prospects, journeyed to Sirohi months ago, only to find themselves ensnared in a nightmare. They allege that the accused not only provided accommodation and meals but also spiked their food with sedatives, rendering them vulnerable to unspeakable acts of abuse.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Paras Choudhary, initially dismissed the women's claims, labeling them as false.
However, the Rajasthan High Court intervened, ordering a thorough investigation following a petition from eight of the victims.
As the investigations unfold, the horrifying ordeal sheds light on the pervasive vulnerability of women to exploitation and abuse, underscoring the urgent need for robust mechanisms to safeguard their rights and dignity.
