Digital Desk: At least five places in the state have been selected by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to build railway carriage restaurants.
The older Indian Railways carriages were retired from service as Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches proliferated. The Railways used these former railway cars as coach restaurants once they were no longer in use.
According to NFR authorities, the establishment of coach restaurants in Rangiya and Rangapara North in the Rangiya division, three in the Lumding division, two in Guwahati, and one in Diphu, as well as one at New Tinsukia in the Tinsukia division, has been finalised.
The NFR has also started converting some of its vintage train cars that couldn't be used into eateries. One of these coach restaurants has already been opened by NF Railway in Katihar, while a second coach restaurant was close to being operational in the New Jalpaiguri station vicinity.

A total of 43 locations around the NFR have been chosen to introduce such coach restaurants. There were six spots in Katihar, eight in Alipurduar, fourteen in Rangiya, eleven in Lumding, and four in Tinsukia divisions where coach restaurants were planned and construction was already underway.
The coach restaurants were created with an attractive, historically accurate style to draw travellers.
People can delight in dining on railway coaches while spending time with family and friends and feeling exhilarated. The bus restaurants will offer a place to purchase meals, snacks, and drinks.
This NFR programme was expected to provide non-fare revenue for the railways as well as job opportunities for both skilled and unskilled workers.
