India ranked fourth globally for research output, which increased by 54 percent...

Digital Desk: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has published a ranking of the nation's best research institutes based on recommendations by the MHRD committee. 

The parameters used by NIRF are: 
· Quantitative Research (QNR)
· Qualitative Research (QLR)
· Students and Faculty Contribution (SFC)
· Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)
· Perception (PR)

Top Colleges for Research in India in 2023: NIRF Rankings 

These are the top 10 research institutes in the country, according to the NIRF 2023 ranking: 

1.   Indian Institute of Science, Karnataka 
2.   Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Tamil Nadu 
3.   Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi 
4.   Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Maharashtra 
5.   Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, West Bengal 
6.   Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh 
7.   Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand 
8.   All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi 
9.   Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam 
10. Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, Maharashtra 

Status of research in India 

According to the research insights database SciVal, India ranked fourth globally for research output, which increased by 54% between 2017 and 2022. 

Compared to the global research output of 22%, this is more than twice as much. India produced 1.3 million scholarly articles between 2017 and 2022, earning 8.9 million citations.
 
However, India lags in terms of the effect of the research done. According to QS researcher Ben Sowter, India ranks ninth in the world for citations produced between 2017 and 2022.
