The CAA regulations were announced on March 11, which is eleven years after the law was implemented in 2019.......

Digital desk: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that there has only been one application for citizenship under the CAA thus far.

Without providing any details, he stated that the single application was submitted in Barak Valley.

He went on to say that things will become clearer and demonstrate how certain people tried to create trouble by telling lies.

"The anti-CAA movement was based on lies and they (who were at the forefront) will have to answer now. So many days have passed, and only one application has been made in the state to date," Sarma said.

Following an electoral rally at Sonari, Sivasagar district, which is under the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, the chief minister spoke with reporters.

The CAA regulations were announced on March 11, which is eleven years after the law was implemented in 2019 to expedite citizenship for non-Muslims who came to India before 2015 from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Four years after the law's passage in Parliament, the guidelines were announced. Protesting against the CAA and burning copies of its rules were organizations like the All Assam Students' Union.

Sarma added that there won't be a battle in any of the five constituencies holding their first round of voting on April 19.

He stated that there will be a contest in one constituency for each of the remaining nine seats, where voting will take place in two additional rounds. He did not specify which constituencies these would be.

"If we consider BJP's performance in the 2021 assembly polls, even after delimitation, we are in the lead," the chief minister said.

CM Sarma once again predicted that there will be no one left in Congress by 2026.
