New Delhi: The government on Wednesday informed the Parliament that after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, non-residents of Jammu & Kashmir had bought a total of 7 plots in Jammu so far.
"As per the data presented by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, a total of seven plots of land have been bought by persons from outside the UT of Jammu and Kashmir," Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said in a written reply to a query by Communist Party of India (Marxist) Rajya Sabha MP Jharna Das Baidya.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also stated that all seven plots were bought in the Jammu division. In August 2019, the central government repealed the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
When Article 370 was in force in Jammu and Kashmir, outsiders could not purchase land in Jammu & Kashmir. Only the state's permanent residents were permitted to purchase land under Article 370.
While repealing this law, the Center stated that this law was the most significant obstacle in the state's growth and argued that after the abrogation of Article 370, non-residents would also be capable of purchasing land and making an investment in Jammu & Kashmir.
