DIBRUGARH: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has initiated substantial restoration efforts on its flood-damaged tracks within the Tinsukia Division, marking a critical step towards re-establishing connectivity in eastern Assam. This intensive work, which commenced around July 31, comes two weeks after devastating flash floods on July 19 severely impacted railway infrastructure across the region.
The deluge caused extensive damage, washing away large sections of railway lines and formations primarily in Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts. This disruption brought train services to a halt, isolating communities and severely impacting the movement of people and goods across Upper Assam, a region heavily reliant on its rail network.
In response, NFR has deployed a significant contingent of railway engineers, a large workforce, and heavy machinery to the affected sites. Their immediate focus is on rebuilding the destroyed track segments, reinforcing embankments, and stabilising the railway formation that suffered extensive erosion and damage from the floodwaters. Officials confirmed that the scale of damage necessitated a comprehensive and swift repair strategy to mitigate long-term impacts.
The ongoing restoration is vital for re-establishing the crucial transport links that serve as lifelines for both passengers and the regional economy in Upper Assam. The NFR's proactive measures are a beacon of hope for residents and businesses eagerly anticipating the return of normal train services.
