Digital Desk: Netflix is going to raise the prices of its ad-free membership plans after prohibiting password sharing and launching ad-supported alternatives. Reportedly, the WSJ (Wall Street Journal) said that it is in discussions about boosting costs in numerous global regions, with the initial focus presumably on the United States and Canada.
Following the end of the ongoing Hollywood actors' strike, the streaming behemoth is adopting these modifications. Netflix, according to reports, will implement the new modifications in the coming weeks.
However, the specifics of the price increases remain unknown. Netflix did not even react promptly to a request for comment from Reuters.
Meanwhile, Netflix has discontinued its most affordable basic plan in the United States, which was $9.99 per month, and as of July, it only offers a $15.49 standard ad-free plan and a $6.99 ad-supported tier. The pricing modifications are consistent with the company's revenue growth goal.
The streaming behemoth has been pouring money into new programming, including original shows and films. This significant outlay has resulted in lower profitability, pushing Netflix to hike prices to meet its costs.
Netflix also released an ad-supported plan last year, which costs $6.99 per month in the United States, which is $8.50 cheaper than its most affordable ad-free option. This ad-supported plan includes four to five advertisements every hour, each lasting 15 to 30 seconds.
In India, however, instead of an ad-supported plan, Netflix offers a mobile-only option, which is excellent for consumers who prefer to watch content on their smartphones.
Netflix's mobile-only package, which costs Rs. 149 per month, provides unlimited ad-free access to films, TV series, and exclusive mobile games on your Android phone, tablet, iPhone, or iPad.
