Digital Desk: Senior BJP figure and legislator from Dhamnagar, Bishnu Charan Sethi passed away on Monday at the age of 61.

According to reports, Sethi had kidney problems and was receiving treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.

AIIMS officials, "He remained in the ICU for the last two months due to lung infections and had a cerebral haemorrhage."

Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister, expressed his sorrow at the death of the BJP MLA.

"I am heartbroken to learn of Bishnu Charan Sethi's passing, a Dhamnagar MLA. His public service for the welfare of the people will always be remembered. My sympathies go out to the grieving family members; may his soul find comfort at this difficult time, the Odisha CM remarked.

Moreover, Prof. Ganeshi Lal, the governor of Odisha, also expressed his profound sorrow at the passing of Vishnu Charan Sethi, praising him as a capable lawmaker and well-liked public figure and wishing him eternal rest.

In Odisha, Sethi was a well-known and respected BJP politician. He was initially elected to the Odisha Assembly on a BJP ticket in 2000, and in 2019 he was elected to the Bhadrak district's Dhamnagar constituency as an MLA. 

Additionally, he held the positions of vice president of the BJP's Odisha unit and deputy leader of the opposition in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
