El Salvador: 22 year old Katherine Diaz from El Salvador who was a member of El Salvador’s National Surfing Team was struck by lighting while training on a beach near her home in El Tunco.

Diaz was preparing to represent her country by debuting in the Olympic’s this summer.

Condoling the loss, the Salvadoran Surf Federation said in a post paying tribute to Katherine Diaz on social media. “A great athlete who has represented our country has left us. See you soon, great warrior. El Salvador is in mourning.”
