Digital Desk: The upcoming Bollywood film 'Oh My God 2', starring actor Akshay Kumar, is facing controversy as a priest from Ujjain's revered Mahakaleshwar temple demands the deletion of certain scenes that were filmed within the temple premises. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has already given the film an 'A certificate', indicating adult content, but the priest believes that these scenes could potentially hurt religious sentiments.
Speaking to ANI, Mahesh Sharma, a priest of the Mahakaleshwar temple, expressed his concerns about the scenes filmed at the temple. "The censor board has given an 'A' certificate to the film 'Oh My God 2'. This certification is reserved for films that have adult content. We demand that some scenes, which were filmed at the Mahakal temple, be removed as they might offend the religious sentiments of viewers," he said.
While the CBFC has already cleared the film for release with an 'A certificate', Sharma and his supporters insist that the scenes filmed at the temple should be reconsidered. They argue that the depiction of religious places in films should be done with the utmost care and respect.
Notably, actor Akshay Kumar, who leads the film's cast, had shot certain sequences at the Mahakaleshwar temple during the production. The film is a highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit 'Oh My God', which also dealt with themes related to religion and spirituality.
The demand for the removal of these scenes is not a new phenomenon in the Indian film industry. Similar instances have occurred in the past where scenes depicting religious places or practices have been the subject of controversy and protest.
The filmmakers and the CBFC have yet to respond to the priest's demand. If the scenes in question are not removed from the final cut of the film, Mahesh Sharma warns that they will initiate nationwide protests against the movie's release.
