New Delhi: ICMR’s third serological survey has shown that more than one-fifth of the country’s adult population had at some point been infected by the covid infection by mid-December.

However, a large proportion still remains vulnerable hence prevention is the key and vaccines are necessary, according to the survey. The seroprevalence in the population above the age of 18 years was 21.4 per cent in the third serosurvey conducted from December 17, 2020, to January 8, 2021, the ICMR said.

Meanwhile, the separate data released on seroprevalence among those aged 10-18 was found to be 25.3 per cent. The data released reflected the prevalence of antibodies, read as evidence that the person has had Covid-19.
