Digital Desk: In the midst of rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian embassy rescued a Pakistani student stranded in the war-torn country.
According to sources, Pakistani national Asma Shafique, rescued by the Indian embassy, is presently on her way to Western Ukraine for further evacuation out of the country. Reportedly, she will be united with her family soon.
Shafique conveyed her appreciation to the Indian embassy in Kyiv and Prime Minister Narendra Modi after being rescued by Indian authorities.
"I want to thank the Indian embassy in Kyiv for their assistance all the way here, as we were in a difficult circumstance, and also like to thank India's Prime Minister for his assistance. Because of the Indian embassy, I'm hoping we'll be able to return home safely," she said.
Notably, this is not the first time India has saved a foreign national. Earlier, India evacuated one Bangladeshi national. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that one Nepali citizen would also board an Indian flight as a part of Operation Ganga.
According to The Kathmandu Post, Roshan Jha, the first Nepali national to be evacuated from Ukraine by Indian officials, expressed gratitude to the Indian government for their assistance.
Later, the Indian embassy in Kathmandu reported that the Indian government evacuated seven additional Nepalis from Poland.
Meanwhile, the MEA announced on Tuesday that it had evacuated all Indian students from Sumy, Ukraine.
So far, over 18 thousand Indians have been brought back by special flights under 'Operation Ganga' from Ukraine's neighbouring nations.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, 410 Indians were returned on Tuesday by special civilian flights from Ukraine's neighbouring nations via two special civilian flights from Suceava.
