New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday faced extreme backlash and criticism over a photo from the prayer meet of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.
The former Uttar Pradesh CM passed away in Lucknow on Saturday.
A picture was posted by the BJP on social networking site Twitter, where the BJP party flag was seen above the Indian national flag.
Mr. Singh passed away at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow at the age of 89.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Lucknow to pay the last respect to the BJP veteran.
“India has lost a valuable personality and a very capable leader. We must do maximum hard work for his ideals, his promises and leave no effort in achieving his dreams,” PM Modi told reporters after paying his last respects to the BJP leader.
Kalyan Singh was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice, and was Chief Minister during the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.
BJP was highly criticized by the netizens as well and were seen angry as tweets were pouring in for putting the party flag above the national flag.
