Digital Desk: A passenger attempting to sneak a cigarette on a flight to Bangkok accidentally sets fire to the plane's toilet.

The Israeli traveller, who was aboard on an El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Bangkok on Friday, put his still-smoldering cigarette butt into a trash can. The cigarette butt set fire to the trashed toilet paper and tissues.

El Al representatives told The Times of Israel that the fire was put out by flight attendants using extinguishers. The airline also stated that there was no damage.

"The aircraft resumed as scheduled and landed safely at Bangkok Airport; the passenger was warned, and the matter was forwarded to our legal department for further investigation," El Al representatives informed The Times of Israel.

However, an airline spokesperson stated that the passenger will face legal action once he returns to Israel from Thailand.

The airline did not involve Thai local authorities because the aircraft crew extinguished the fire quickly without causing any severe damage.

Almost all airlines and governments throughout the world restrict smoking on flights.
