The government increased capital expenditure by 33% to Rs 10 lakh crore, according to Sitharaman's further statement in the recently presented budget.

Digital Desk: Petroleum goods could be subject to the GST regime, according to comments made on Wednesday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, if states can reach an agreement.

She added that if the states agree, petroleum items can be included in the GST ambit while speaking at a post-budget interactive session hosted by the business group PHDCCI.

On February 18, there will be a GST Council meeting.

During the interactive session with business leaders, the finance minister noted that the government has worked to raise public spending over the years because she believed that it would spur economic growth.
