Digital Desk: During a press release, the ruling party noted that 3,855 orphaned children during the Covid-19 pandemic could receive help under the PM CARES for Children scheme. During a question session in Rajya Sabha, the Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani commented on this matter. She stated that so far, a total of 6,624 applications have been received for support under the PM Cares for children scheme. Out of these, 3,855 applications have been approved for benefits. Minister Smriti Irani further elaborated that most applications were received from Maharashtra, which counts 1,158. Uttar Pradesh followed Maharashtra with 768, Madhya Pradesh with 739, Tamil Nadu with 496 and Andhra Pradesh with 479. Also Read: Isolated rainfall is likely to occur in the Northeastern States today The PM Cares for children scheme is available through an online portal, i.e. pmcaresforchildren.in. The applications of those children in need are uploaded on the portal by the respective State/UT Governments. Moreover, the government additionally notified that they are implementing a centrally sponsored scheme lately. The scheme is named Child Protection Services (CPS) scheme- Mission Vatsalya. Under this Child Protection Services (CPS) scheme- Mission Vatsalya, the government will support the States and UT government to deliver services for children in need f concern and care. The Child Care Institutions (CCIs) founded under the CPS scheme help inter-alia age-appropriate instruction, admission to vocational training, recreation, health-care, counselling etc. The Union Women and Child Development Ministry even communicated advisories and guidelines for helping states/UTs concerning childcare institutions, including delivering vaccination for eligible children and mental soundness help to children and caretakers.
