Digital desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma
Gandhi on his birth anniversary today, urging everyone to buy khadi and
handicrafts products in his honor.
He also remembered India's second prime minister, Lal Bahadur
Shastri, whose birthday is also on October 2, saying he is respected throughout
the country for his simplicity and decisiveness.
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to Gandhi on Twitter, writing,
"On Gandhi Jayanti, we pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. This Gandhi Jayanti
is extra special because it coincides with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in India.
May we always strive to live up to Bapu's ideals. I also encourage you to buy
Khadi and handicrafts as a tribute to Gandhi Ji."
He paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri by saying, "Lal
Bahadur Shastri Ji is revered throughout India for his clarity and
decisiveness. His tough leadership during a critical period in our history will
be remembered forever. On his Jayanti, we pay tribute to him."
The prime minister also shared some images from his gallery in Delhi's 'Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya,' which depicts Lal Bahadur Shastri's life journey and achievements. PM Modi also shared audio clips of his previous tributes to the two great leaders, which he gave on different occasions.
