Rome: On the sidelines of the G20 Summit being held in Italy’s capital Rome, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday had a meeting with the President of France Emmanuel Macron.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, both the leaders had a ‘productive discussion’ on numerous issues of strategic, bilateral and global importance. The discussion also centered around the issues of the Indo-Pacific region.

Modi who came to attend the G20 summit on invitation of the Italian prime minister was also accompanied by the national Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the interaction with the French counterpart.

Referring to the meeting, in a Tweet PM Modi said "Delighted to meet my friend, President @EmmanuelMacron in Rome. Our talks revolved around enhancing cooperation in diverse areas and boosting people-to-people relations”.

He also added that India and France are cooperating as partners in various sectors. He also said that the meeting will add more momentum to the bilateral ties between both the countries.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs also said that the two leaders “discussed India-France cooperation on various subjects and reaffirmed their commitment to the strategic partnership.”

Earlier, more than a month back, both the leaders had a telephonic conversation during Paris’ criticism of the Australia-UK-US security partnerships.

According to a statement by the Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, PM Modi has also invited PM Macron to visit India.
