Digital Desk: Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab's Ferozepur on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone of numerous development schemes worth more than ₹42,750 crores.

The event for the foundation stone laying has been scheduled to take place at 1 pm today. PM Modi's visit to the city comes ahead of the upcoming elections in Punjab. 

The projects for launch include the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway; four laning of the Amritsar-Una province, and the Mukerian-Talwara New Broad Gauge railway line.

PM Modi will further lay the foundation stone for the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education, and Research (PGIMER) 's satellite centre in Ferozepur. This project will be built at a budget of ₹490.5 crores and comprise 30 intensive care and high reliance beds.

In addition, it will accommodate ten clinical speciality units, five additional supporting branches, and minor and significant operation theatres.

Besides, PM Modi will correspondingly lay the foundation stone of two new medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur. These medical colleges will be constructed at around ₹325 crores each and have approximately 100 seats.

Moreover, the 669-kilometre long Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will be set at about ₹39,500 crores. It will split travel duration from Delhi to Amritsar and Delhi to Katra.

Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a series of developmental schemes in states ahead of assembly elections. Punjab is among those states that planned to go to assembly polls this year. 

The saffron party is all set with their election campaigns for all the states holding elections this year. Headlines have only highlighted events launched by PM Modi for various developmental projects each day. The saffron party is all trying to set its footprints in the states.
