Raut said that the decision to extend support to Draupadi Murmu does not imply that we are also supporting the BJP.

Digital Desk: Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, who was reported by The Indian Express, The Shiv Sena indicated on Tuesday that they will support Draupadi Murmu, the NDA's presidential candidate, while claiming that they are not supporting the BJP. The choice was made a day after the party's legislators pushed Uddhav Thackeray to support Murmu.

"The Shiv Sena acts in a way that it believes is moral. We have already offered our support to UPA nominees Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee as well as Congress nominee T N Seshan. The Sena has a history of doing more than just politics.  We believe in supporting individuals in the national interest," Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, as reported by The Indian Express.

When asked specifically if the Shiv Sena was preparing to support NDA nominee Draupadi Murmu, Raut responded that party president Uddhav Thackeray would make an announcement regarding this choice soon. You may expect the decision either today or tomorrow, he said.

"Droupadi Murmu is the first tribal woman who has a good chance of becoming India's president. Maharashtra has a large tribal population. Many Shiv Sainiks are natives of tribal areas. MLAs exist as well, "added Raut.

The choice to extend support to Draupadi Murmu does not imply that we are also supporting the BJP, said Raut.

Shiv Sena party president Uddhav Thackeray said, "He won't make the choice under any pressure. He will do so after the meeting [on Monday]. He also stated that allof us will support whatever choice he makes.

Notably, the presidential elections will be held on July 18. MPs can vote as per their will as there is no party whip issued.
