According to the PM, his government opened bank accounts for more than 40 crore villagers as part of the Jan Dhan scheme.

Digital Desk: On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that prior administrations disregarded villages as they were not vote banks.

Speaking at a public gathering in Rewa on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, Modi said that the BJP-led government has improved the situation and given enormous grants to panchayats.

"Earlier governments were hesitant to invest in villages because they did not provide a reliable source of votes. They were ignored because of this.

PM Modi said, "Many political parties were running their shops by dividing the villagers."

The BJP has put an end to the injustice done to the villages and opened its treasury chest for their development, he added.

According to the PM, his government opened bank accounts for more than 40 crore villagers as part of the Jan Dhan scheme.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for many railway projects in Madhya Pradesh at the ceremony.
