She pointed out Sarma's transition from the Congress party to the BJP as a means of escaping past allegations

Digital Desk: During her campaign in Dhubri, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of fostering a 'Mafia Raj' in Assam, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma labelled as one of the party's most corrupt figures.

She pointed out Sarma's transition from the Congress party to the BJP as a means of escaping past allegations. Gandhi highlighted various criminal activities thriving under BJP rule, including land, supari, balu (sand), and coal mafias, alongside instances of corruption such as the PPE kit and flyover scams, as well as cow smuggling.

“There are land mafias, supari mafias, balu (sand) mafias, coal mafias and they are openly operating their activities, Gandhi said as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

She criticised BJP leaders for ignoring these issues and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of endorsing tainted individuals like Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna. Gandhi also condemned the BJP's silence on rising crime rates in their governed states, citing incidents like the Hathras gangrape and murder, as well as the Manipur incident where two women were assaulted.

Gandhi challenged Modi's claims, stating that during Congress's tenure, they focused on nation-building by establishing institutions like IITs, IIMs, ISRO, and AIIMS. She questioned the BJP's achievements in their tenure and accused them of attempting to alter the constitution.

Regarding Assam's political landscape, Gandhi alleged that AIUDF's Badruddin Ajmal and AIMIM's Asaduddin Salahuddin Owaisi act as BJP's proxies, disrupting Congress's position in the state. She urged voters to support Congress, promising to raise tea garden workers' wages and fill central government vacancies if elected.
