Digital Desk: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh was defeated in his Patiala home constituency. Ajit Pal Singh Kohli of the Aam Aadmi Party defeated him for the seat. Captain Amarinder Singh got 22,868 votes, while Ajit Pal Singh Kohli received 33,142 votes. On the other hand, with 9,657 votes, Harpal Juneja of the SAD was in the third spot. Vishnu Sharma, a Congress candidate, received 7,593 votes. Last year, following a conflict with Navjot Singh Sidhu, Amarinder was forced to resign from the chief minister's post. After resigning from the Congress, Amarinder established the Punjab Lok Congress. His party has joined forces with the BJP, which was previously a junior member of the SAD-led coalition. Captain Amarinder Singh, also known as the Maharaja of Patiala, won the seat four times in 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017. After Amarinder Singh defeated BJP veteran Arun Jaitley by more than 102,000 votes in the Patiala Lok Sabha election in 2014, his wife Preneet Kaur was elected.
