The incident grew at a public gathering in Padila, within the Phulpur Parliamentary constituency of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh

Digital Desk: In a dramatic turn of events, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav hastily departed from a public meeting in Prayagraj on Sunday, refraining from addressing the crowd due to escalating chaos and security concerns.

The incident grew at a public gathering in Padila, within the Phulpur Parliamentary constituency of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. As tensions mounted and a stampede-like situation occurred, Gandhi and Yadav made an exit from the rally without delivering their scheduled speeches.

Efforts to pacify the agitated Congress and SP supporters proved futile as the crowd surged towards the stage, prompting the leaders to prioritize safety and security. Despite repeated appeals for calm, the situation remained volatile, prompting the leaders to engage in a brief discussion before deciding to leave the venue to avert any potential security lapses.

Following their departure from Phulpur, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav proceeded to Mungari in Karachhana for a subsequent rally within the Prayagraj district, under the Allahabad parliamentary seat. Similar scenes of disorder unfolded at this event, with attendees breaching barricades in their eagerness to approach the stage.

This incident comes on the heels of a recent joint rally in Amethi, a former stronghold of Rahul Gandhi, where he was defeated by BJP's Smriti Irani in the 2019 general elections. As the Lok Sabha elections 2024 progress, the fifth phase is slated for tomorrow, May 20, with crucial contests in Uttar Pradesh, including seats held by prominent figures like Rahul Gandhi, Rajnath Singh, and Smriti Irani.
