The Rajya Sabha, unlike the Lok Sabha, is a permanent body that cannot be dissolved.

Prag News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi bid farewell to the 72 Rajya Sabha MPs who retired on Thursday (March 31).PM Modi stated that members of Parliament’s experience were more valuable than academic knowledge.

“Our Rajya Sabha members have extensive experience. Experience can sometimes be more powerful than academic knowledge. We will tell the retiring members to come back,” PM Modi said.

The Rajya Sabha, unlike the Lok Sabha, is a permanent body that cannot be dissolved. However, one-third of Rajya Sabha members retire every other year, and the vacancies are filled through elections and Presidential nominations.

“We have spent a long time in this Parliament. This House has contributed significantly more to our lives than we have contributed to it. The knowledge gained as a member of this House should be disseminated throughout the country.” PM Modi said. 

Jairam Ramesh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, P Chidambaram, Praful Patel, Sanjay Raut, Subramanian Swamy, Roopa Ganguly, MC Mary Kom, and MJ Akbar are among those leaving the Rajya Sabha.
