Jorhat: The Majuli boat tragedy shook the entire State of Assam on Wednesday evening when one passenger’s boat and one IWT owned ferry came from opposite sides and collided with each other on the river Brahmaputra.

The accident took the life of a passenger, Parimita Das, while still, two are missing.

Among the two missing is a Doctor identified as Dr Bikramjit Baruah, a resident of Borigaon, Jorhat.

Reportedly, he is working at Garmur Civil Hospital, Majuli as an ENT specialist.

DR. Baruah, married to Dr. Arunima Borah and father of two children, is a joyful person, ready to help people at any time, said by a relative.

Today, family members prayed to the river Brahmaputra to help find their son.

“Please return our child, if something misdeed is done by us please spare us.” said a relative.

Showing anger against the government, another relative asserted, “We all know everything about the government, we lost our son not them, it’s all because of the negligence of the government the accident happened.”

On Thursday, a relative of Dr Baruah, while interacting with Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while his visit to Nimatighat, asked him to help find Dr Baruah as soon as possible.

Our sources said Dr Bikramjit Baruah lived at the same place where deceased Parimita Das lived as a renter.

Another missing person, identified as Indeshwar Bora, a resident of Nowboicha, Lakhimpur, is a non-salaried teacher at the Rampur Rajgarh High School.

Search operations by the SDRF and NDRF are still underway in the River Brahmaputra for the missing persons.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister today reached Majuli to inspect the ongoing search operation.
