This year, Parag joined an elite group by becoming the third batter, alongside Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma, to score over 500 runs in an IPL season while batting at position 4 or lower. He is one of only five players to achieve this milestone without having played at the international level.
Parag's selection for the NCA's High-Performance Monitoring Programme highlights his significant potential and suggests a promising future for the young cricketer. The programme aims to provide specialised training and support to help players reach their full potential and prepare them for international cricket.
At just 14 years old, Riyan Parag was poised to become India's youngest first-class debutant, but the Assam selectors, not aligned with the state's coach Sanath Kumar at the time, had different plans. Riyan eventually marked his Twenty20 debut for Assam during the 2016–17 Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament on January 29, 2017.
His talent didn't go unnoticed, as he earned a spot in India's squad for the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in October 2017. Later that year, on November 17, 2017, he finally made his first-class debut for Assam in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. And now, his selection for the NCA’s High-Performance Monitoring Programme is also evidence of is career growth.
