According to reports, the connectivity between Haflong and Silchar snapped as the water level rose on the highway near Kapurcherra in the hill district, while the Haflong-Lanka road has also been cut off due to heavy landslides in various areas in between the routes.
Digital Desk: A continuous downpour in Dima Hasao disputed road and railway communications. Reportedly, three people died due to a landslide.
The rainy weather completely affected the Dima Hasao district and caused several landslide incidents in the different areas of the district. Reportedly, three people, identified as Peramsuiluingbe Zanme (48), Kiseteuing Zamne (34), and Nchilungle Zanme (10), in Hokai-Punji village under Haflong Police Station died due to a landslide.
According to reports, the connectivity between Haflong and Silchar snapped as the water level rose on the highway near Kapurcherra in the hill district, while the Haflong-Lanka road has also been cut off due to heavy landslides in various areas in between the routes.
On the other hand, several parts of Haflong town have also been flooded by heavy downpours.
“Due to the incessant rainfall in the past couple of days, the district reported several landslides which affected rail routes between Maibang and Mahur, delaying trains”, said an official. The railway staffers are working to restore the damaged parts, he added.
On the other hand, waterlogging was caused by heavy rains in the early hours of Saturday in numerous parts of Guwahati. The constant rain disrupted normal life around the city, with commuters and pedestrians caught in knee-high water.
“We had stopped a passenger train at Maibong station. Our teams are working to restore the damaged track. Several trains are running slowly due to the landslide,” a railway official said.
The officials and workers from different departments are trying to normalize the situation, but the weather does not support them and worsens it.
