Digital Desk: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to inaugurate the robotic surgery unit at the State Cancer Institute which is located within Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Dispur, Guwahati city.
This innovative medical center, the first of its kind, represents the most advanced robotic surgery unit across the entire Northeast and delivers groundbreaking cancer treatments to the region. The unit received its funding of ₹15 crore from the Government of India as part of the SSI Mission 2.0 which represents a key development for state healthcare capabilities.
The medical staff in Guwahati now has the capability to perform remote surgeries through the new system that operates while seated in New Delhi. Robot-controlled manipulator arms operate as an advanced system that permits precise, minimally invasive procedures through their complete computer automation and absence of direct surgeon contact with the patient. The computer displays organs and magnified view allows doctors to perform detailed yet precise surgical operations. The recovery process for cancer patients will become more rapid.
The initial expense of robotic surgical operations will decrease as time progresses because they become more cost-efficient. The Ayushman Bharat scheme of the Indian government provides healthcare benefits accessible to patients.
The Assam state government intends to establish robotic surgery centers in Silchar and Dibrugarh this year. Assam will establish four new cancer hospitals and B.Sc. nursing institutions throughout the state. The nursing student curriculum will include education in English and Japanese. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the support.
The introduction of robotic surgery at the medical facility represents a significant breakthrough in Assam's healthcare industry by demonstrating state leadership in delivering premier medical care to people in their own territory. The people of the northeast now have more convenient access to high-quality cancer treatment institutions because of this milestone achievement.
