Russia has been sanctioned by Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom, but India has remained silent on Moscow’s actions.

Digital Desk: After Russia faced a severe global backlash over its full-scale attack on Ukraine, the Russian workers covered the flags of Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom on its space rocket. However, the workers kept the Indian flag unaffected. Russian space agency (Roscosmos) chief Dmitry Rogozin shared a video on Twitter on Wednesday showing workers covering the flags of Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom on a Soyuz rocket at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Rogozin’s tweet, roughly translated from Russian, said, “The launchers at Baikonur decided that without the flags of some countries, our rocket would look more beautiful.” Notably, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom have slapped economic penalties on Russia, whereas India has remained silent on Moscow’s conduct. Additionally, India did not vote on the resolution condemning Russia at Wednesday’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. Instead, the Indian government has consistently urged both Russia and Ukraine to reach a peaceful agreement. As per reports, the Soyuz rocket, carrying 36 OneWeb satellites, was scheduled to launch on March 4; however, Roscosmos then stated that the launch would not take place as planned. OneWeb is a multinational communications corporation that provides high-speed internet access to customers worldwide. The British government owns a portion of it, and Bharti Enterprises and SoftBank are among the other shareholders. “Roscosmos wants assurances that OneWeb satellites won’t be utilized for military purposes. Another prerequisite for the March 5 launch is that the British government withdraws from OneWeb, due to Britain’s unfriendly position against Russia,” the Russian agency tweeted. According to a BBC, the British government is under pressure to cancel the rocket launch due to the worsening conflict in Ukraine. According to the BBC article, the government said it continues to examine the problem with its partners on OneWeb’s board.
