Salman Khan Blackbuck Poaching Case: Salman Khan’s blackbuck poaching case dates back to 1998 when the actor allegedly killed two blackbucks in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur while filming for his Hindi film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

Digital Desk: In a major development in the 1998 blackbuck illegal hunting case involving Salman Khan, the Rajasthan High Court granted the Bollywood actor’s transfer petition. The actor’s appeals will now be heard in the Jodhpur High Court. Salman Khan’s blackbuck poaching case dates back to 1998 when Salman allegedly killed two blackbucks in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur while filming for his Hindi film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.  The actor was charged under Section 9/51 of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972. Moreover, Salman’s co-stars in the film Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, and Tabu, were also charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC. However, his co-stars were acquitted after the court granted them the benefit of the doubt. Dinesh Gawre and Dushyant Singh were the other two accused persons in the case. In 2007, Salman was sentenced to five years in prison by the Rajasthan High Court. However, the court later cancelled it after he served a week in jail. The Rajasthan High Court finalized the charges against the actor in 2012, paving the way for a new trial. In 2014, a legal notice was sent to Salman, challenging an earlier suspension order issued by the High Court in 2007 regarding the actor’s conviction. After the Rajasthan High Court cleared the actor of all charges, the Rajasthan government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court in 2016. The Supreme Court ruled to speed up the hearing process in the case. In 2018, a trial court found Salman guilty of killing two blackbucks. Meanwhile, his co-stars were cleared of the charges against them. Later, Salman Khan also challenged the trial court’s decision in Jodhpur’s district and session courts. PCA Banner 2022
