Digital Desk: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) stated that January 31 would be observed as a "Day of Betrayal" across India, with large-scale protests at district and block levels. Farmers claimed that the government had deceived them and so during a review meeting on January 15, the SKM had taken the decision. SKM statement issued after the meeting of its coordination committee reads, "All of the farm unions linked with the Morcha will be staging this protest. This programme is anticipated to be implemented in at least 500 districts across the country." "On January 31, a memorandum will be delivered to the Union government during the protest. During the meeting, the planning for this programme was reviewed." stated the statement. Farmers protested for almost a year, demanding that the government repeal three controversial farm legislation. Following the government's decision to abolish the three farm laws, SKM stated that the agitation could restart if the government fails to meet their other demands, the most important of which is legal support for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all farmers. The administration's anti-farmer stance is demonstrated by the fact that, even after the SKM meeting on January 15, the government has yet to fulfill any of the pledges made in its December 9, 2021 letter. "In the last two weeks, no action has been made on the promise of an immediate dismissal of the lawsuits filed against the protestors or compensation for the relatives of the martyrs. Due to this, the Morcha has called on farmers across the country to express their displeasure with the government through the 'Day of Betrayal." SKM said. According to the IANS report, the SKM also stated that "Mission Uttar Pradesh" will continue to teach this anti-farmer dictatorship a lesson. According to the SKM statement, "A call will be made to the people of Uttar Pradesh to punish the Bharatiya Janata Party for not firing and arresting Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son was reportedly engaged in the terrible incident at Lakhimpur Khiri last year." The SKM will unveil a new phase of the mission to operationalize this campaign during a press conference on February 3. The message to punish the BJP will be spread throughout Uttar Pradesh by all SKM-affiliated organizations through book distribution, press conferences, social media, and public meetings. On the other hand, the SKM underlined its full support for the statewide strike planned by the Central Trade Unions on February 23 and 24 in response to issues such as the withdrawal of four anti-labor regulations and MSP for farmers.
