New Delhi: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal submitted his nomination for the Rajya Sabha Polls from Assam on Tuesday in Dispur at the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated Union minister of AYUSH and former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal for the Rajya Sabha By-polls scheduled to be held on October 4, 2021.

Sonowal will be the nominee for the seat that has fallen vacant from Assam even after he is the incumbent Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways.

Five of the six Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant after the resignation of members from West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
