Digital Desk: A tragic incident unfolded in Barpeta Road, where the headmaster of Paschim Belguri Primary School, Sadhan Barman, allegedly took his own life, reportedly driven by mental distress caused by a moneylender.
The body of the headmaster was discovered hanging inside a classroom.
Before taking this extreme step, he left behind a note detailing the events leading to his decision.
In the note, he stated that he had borrowed Rs. 1 lakh from a man named Dulu Medhi to cover his father’s cancer treatment and two surgeries for his wife. At the time of borrowing the money, he handed over a blank cheque to Medhi.
However, Medhi later filed an FIR with the police, claiming the borrowed amount was Rs. 5.30 lakh instead of Rs. 1 lakh.
Based on the complaint, police visited Barman's house for questioning. The humiliation and pressure from this situation allegedly drove him to take the tragic step. As per note, Barman had already repaid Rs 40,000 to Medhi.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among locals and the All Koch-Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), who are demanding strict legal action against Dulu Medhi for his alleged role in the matter.
