Sarma commented on the post and claimed that it appeared from the video that Congress has already bartered away the Northeast to a "foreign country."

Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lashed out at the Congress on Saturday, saying that they demonstrated their indifference and apathy towards the Northeast and its people while mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their latest social media post.

According to reports, a video posted by the Congress on its official account on X, formerly Twitter, showed a distorted map of India with the entire Northeast region missing.

Sarma commented on the post and claimed that it appeared from the video that Congress has already bartered away the Northeast to a "foreign country."

Taking a screenshot of the Congress's post, Sarma posted on X, "Seems the Congress party has secretly struck a deal to sell the entire land of the Northeast to some neighbouring country. Is this why Rahul went abroad? Or has the party given membership to Sharjeel Imam (a former student activist jailed under UAP(A) sections)?"

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Sarma called on citizens nationwide to pay attention to the Congress's actions and respond appropriately to them in the Lok Sabha elections the next year.

"I saw that tweet. It appeared as though Congress has given away our beloved Northeast region to China. They showed a map of India with the entire Northeast region missing. This is a purposefully anti-national action. In the next Lok Sabha elections, the people of the Northeast and the rest of the nation should pay attention to this and respond appropriately, the Assam chief minister said ANI."

In a way, the contentious post was a parody of a well-known scene from the Bollywood movie "Deewar" by the Congress.

Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, the film's two main characters, were arguing angrily in this moment, and the latter eventually exclaimed, "Mere paas maa hai" (My mother is with me).

Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were both portrayed as Shashi Kapoor in an animated version of that moment from the movie "Deewar" that the Congress shared.

"I have ED, police, power, money, friends, as heard in the video, what do you have?" PM Modi said.

"The entire country is with me," Rahul Gandhi responds.
