An alert received to B.C. residents' phones said, "Multiple shooting scenes in the central centre of the city of Langley with 1 event in Langley Township involving transient victims."

A representative for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation that a number of persons were slain, but she did not say how many.

According to the CBC, the victims were homeless, and investigators believe the incident was premeditated.

Two black SUVs, resembling those employed by police emergency response teams, were spotted in a ditch close to one of the gunshot locations by a Reuters eyewitness. The windscreen of one car had bullet holes in it.
