Digital Desk: As a cold wave grips portions of North India, including the national capital, shelter homes for the destitute have been established.

The 'Rain Basera' shelter homes provide beds, blankets, breakfast, and plenty of room for the homeless.

Amjad Khan, a resident of Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, hailed the government for establishing shelter homes.

"The government has done a wonderful job of managing the homeless people here; we used to sleep outside here, but now that the administration has built these temporary residences, we've moved in. In the morning, tea and breakfast are served, and blankets are available "he stated.

The custodian of the Lodhi Road night shelter, Rain Basera, Nihal Hussain, told ANI that sufficient facilities for bed, breakfast, water, and toilet have been arranged for the needy.

"There are a total of eight caretakers who are deployed in different shifts on a rotation basis," he said.

In terms of medical help, Nihal stated, "We have been given a First Aid kit and have been taught to administer First Aid care. We've been given the Ambulance number in case things get out of hand."

With the temperature in Delhi steadily dropping, the homeless have only one option: gather around bonfires and shiver.

According to IMD scientists, cold wave conditions are projected to reappear over North-West India and peak around January 15-16, with minimum temperatures expected to drop two days after January 12.

The IMD forecasted dense to extremely dense fog in areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on January 14, as well as isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Dense fog is also forecast in isolated pockets over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha, with cold day conditions extremely possible in isolated areas over Bihar.
