Digital Desk: Shilpa Shetty made waves in 2007 after Hollywood actor Richard Gere kissed her in public at a function in Rajasthan. The situation did not go well for the locals, who filed obscenity complaints against the actress. However, years after the incident, the actress has been cleared of all charges today.
Following the incident, three cases of obscenity were filed against the performers, two in Rajasthan and one in Ghaziabad. In 2017, the Supreme Court apparently granted her request to relocate the case to Mumbai.
According to Metropolitan Magistrate Ketaki Chavan, Shilpa Shetty appeared to clarify her position shortly after the incident. Further, the Magistrate was convinced that the charges against Shilpa were without merit after reviewing the police report and papers given, and therefore she was released from the charges.
Through Advocate Madhukar Dalvi, the actress moved for discharge under Sections 239 (discharge after reviewing police report and documents) and 245 (discharge after evaluating evidence) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Her applications argued that the charge against her was "simply that she did not resist when co-accused Richard Gere kissed her," which by no stretch of the imagination made her a conspirator or perpetrator of the crime.
Notably, Shilpa was in the spotlight last year after her husband, Raj Kundra, was arrested for a pornographic case. Currently, the businessman has been released on bail.
Speaking on the work front, Shilpa was recently seen in 'Hungama 2' alongside Paresh Rawal, Meezaan, and Pranitha Subhash. The film received mixed reviews after it was released on an OTT platform.
In her upcoming project, the 'Dhadkan' actress will be seen with Abhimanyu Dassani and Shirley Setia in Sabbir Khan's 'Nikamma.'
