Digital Desk: Once again, a grave accusation has appeared against the police force this time at Noonmati Police Station, where a youth, who was arrested on the charge of kidnapping, has been allegedly beaten to death in police custody. This incident has created enormous anger and unrest in the area.

The victim, Arjun Sharma (26), of Kalitakuchi Gorkha Path in Narengi was in a long-term relationship with a girl named Jupitora Kumar of a neighboring locality. On 6th June (Friday) the two ran away intending to get married. After this, the father of the girl registered a complaint at Noonmati Police Station. Police, based on the FIR, conducted an operation in Udalguri and managed to arrest Arjun and rescue the girl.

According to family members, Arjun appeared in a severely unwell condition at the Noonmati Police Station on Tuesday. They asked for urgent medical assistance, but the police allegedly did not act. On Wednesday morning, the family was informed by the police that Arjun had died in custody at Noonmati Central Jail. Arjun's family was shocked to hear the news, and they alleged that the police had accepted 5 lakh rupees given by the father of the girl to kill Arjun.

The family also released a phone recording where the girl’s father allegedly threatens that Arjun would be killed after giving the bribe. Arjun’s family is now demanding a proper and unbiased investigation by higher police authorities. The event has brought about big questions concerning police accountability and behavior.
