Digital Desk: The Shraddha Walkar murder case has taken on new twists and turns, with the most recent development being the uncertainty surrounding the bail petition that Aaftab Poonawala, the primary accused in the case, is said to have filed.
According to reports, Aaftab Amin Poonawala, the main suspect in the death of his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, filed a letter requesting bail in Delhi's Saket Court, arguing that remaining in police custody will harm his profession and future.
A judge heard Aaftab's bail request last week. He allegedly wrote in the letter that his time in jail will hurt his aspirations for the future. Later, Poonawala asserted that he was unaware that a bail application had been submitted.
Aaftab notified the court through email that the petition was filed "erroneously" and that he was unaware that the petition he signed was about his bail following the confusion over the bail application in the Shraddha Walkar murder case.
Aaftab admitted to signing a vakalatnama but was unaware that it was a bail plea during a video conference discussion with the Saket court judge. Since the bail plea was submitted without his knowledge, he asked the judge to retract it.
Aaftab was asked if the judge should continue to consider his bail request. "I would like my attorney talks to me and withdraws the bail application," the murder suspect responded. The court said, "Let the bail application be kept pending, and only after the accused meets with his attorney, will it be decided if the bail application is pressed or not."
Aaftab Poonawala is suspected of killing Shraddha Walkar, his live-in girlfriend, in Mehrauli, Delhi, and then dismembering her body into 35 parts. He allegedly dumped the body pieces in a Chhattarpur jungle and surrounding remote regions.
Aaftab admitted to killing Shraddha during his polygraph and narcoanalysis tests. He said that he had killed Shraddha in a fit of rage and had disposed of the murder weapon close to his Gurugram office.
