Digital desk: The captain of the Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill, was fined Rs.12 lakh after it was determined that his team had maintained a slower pace during Tuesday's IPL 2024 match at Chennai's Chidambaram Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings. This was the first overrate-related offense by a side in the 17th edition of the tournament.

"Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over rate offenses, Gill was fined Rs. 12 lahks," the IPL mentioned in an official statement.

With Hardik Pandya moving to the Mumbai Indians for another captain's role, Gill took over the team and won his first game on Sunday. A few nights ago, GT defeated MI in their tournament opener, which gave the young opening batter a great start. However, on Tuesday, Gill's GT came second in the competition.

On Tuesday, the home team outperformed the IPL 2023 finalists in every aspect. After a half-century from Shivan Dube and useful contributions from Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Co. amassed a commanding total of 206 runs.

They then expertly guarded the total because an all-seam attack had taken care of the job. The GT batting order was broken by Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande, and Deepak Chahar, who each claimed three wickets.

As a result, the home team easily defeated the opposition by 63 runs, moving up to the top of the table after two games and four points. On March 31, Shubman Gill's GT play Sunrisers Hyderabad, while CSK will next play DC in Visakhapatnam.
