Guwahati: Assam police have seized over sixteen cartons of special Gold (ESSE) cigarette valued at Rs 7 lakhs from Jorabat on Sunday, the police report said.
Acting on a special tip-off, the police intercepted an Innova bearing registration number AS 01EW 2111 at Jorabat.
As per the police report, during the operation around sixteen cartons of special Gold (ESSE) Cigarette, containing 50(fifty) packets in each carton have been seized by the police after failing to provide valid documents against the items.
Two persons identified as Bakul Ramchiary and Manoj Dey of Kahilipara have been arrested for the said case.
Police informed that the preliminary investigation reveals that the cigarettes were brought from Byrnihat, Meghalaya, and were destined towards Guwahati.
Moreover, the police added that necessary legal actions were taken against the accused and further investigation will reveal the truth.
