Digital Desk: Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi due to bronchitis. The hospital confirmed in a statement that the 76-year-old is stable.

Gandhi was admitted to the hospital yesterday, a hospital spokesperson said.

Gandhi has been admitted to the hospital under the guidance of Arup Basu, senior consultant, Department of Chest Medicine, and his team, according to DS Rana, Chairman, Trust Society, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

Gandhi is being monitored and is under observation, the hospital said.

"Sonia Gandhi is under observation and undergoing investigations. Her condition is stable," the statement said.

This is the second time she has been admitted to the hospital this year. Earlier, Sonia Gandhi was hospitalized in a Delhi hospital in January for treatment of a viral respiratory infection.

She recently attended the 85th plenary session of the Congress in Raipur. While speaking at the ceremony, Gandhi made reference to her political retirement and expressed her happiness that her "innings could conclude with the Bharat Jodo Yatra."

On the first day of the session, the Congress Steering Committee opted not to hold elections for the party's top council, the Working Committee, and instead authorized the new party president, Mallikarjun Kharge, to name its members.

Sonia Gandhi handed over the leadership of the 137-year-old group to Kharge, a loyalist, in October after back-to-back election setbacks, years of internal wrangling for an overhaul, and an exodus of leaders. The Gandhis, who are regarded as the party's founding family, have a strong grip on it.
