The officer stated that as no other candidates were contesting, the three leaders were elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed.

Digital Desk: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Tuesday, officials said. Assembly Secretary Mahaveer Prasad Sharma announced that Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathore, both of the Bharatiya Janata Party, were elected to the state's Upper House without facing any opposition. The deadline for removing nominations was Tuesday.

The officer stated that as no other candidates were contesting, the three leaders were elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed.

On April 3, Rajya Sabha members Manmohan Singh (Congress) and Bhupendra Yadav (BJP) will conclude their terms. After being elected as an MLA in December, BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena resigned from the House, leaving the third seat empty.

Of the 200 members of the assembly, the BJP has 115 and the Congress has 70.

Rajasthan consists of ten Rajya Sabha seats. The BJP now has four members and the Congress has six following the results.

On Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat saw the election of BJP president JP Nadda and three other party candidates without any opposition. As many as four candidates—all members of the ruling BJP—had submitted their nomination papers for the state's four open Rajya Sabha seats.

Reeta Mehta, the returning officer, pronounced all four BJP candidates—including Nadda—elected to the Upper House of Parliament without opposition because no other candidates had submitted nomination papers for the four open seats in Gujarat's Rajya Sabha elections.

Tuesday was the last date for the withdrawal of nomination forms.

In addition to Nadda, the three other candidates elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha were diamond baron Govindbhai Dholakia, BJP leaders Jasvantsinh Parmar and Mayank Nayak.
