Digital Desk: A terrible road accident occurred late at night on February 22 in the Chandrapur Panikhaiti area, claiming the life of a young man. Reports indicate that a speeding dumper ran over the victim, leading to his death on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Basudev Namasudra, a resident of Panikhaiti Kali Mandir area. Basudev, a carpenter by profession, was on his way home after work when the high-speed dumper struck him.
Following the incident, the driver fled from the scene. Later, police arrived at the spot, recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
Despite launching a search operation that night to locate the vehicle, authorities have yet to find any leads.
Local residents alleged that the dumper was carrying soil from the Silsako Lake area at high speed. They have also accused officials from the Pragjyotishpur Traffic Branch of prioritising the collection of money from truck and dumper drivers over enforcing speed regulations.
The Narengi-Chandrapur highway witnesses hundreds of overloaded dumpers carrying soil every night, leading to frequent accidents.
Despite several accidents, the police have not implemented effective measures to regulate the movement of these heavy vehicles.
