Guwahati: On Tuesday, Guwahati Commerce College (GCC) students protested against the college authority's decision to hike examination and center fees.

As per sources, the college authority had fixed Rs 1,150 for the students studying in B.Com second semester and Rs 1,350 for fourth-semester students of B.Com.

The students have claimed that the Covid-19 pandemic has hit several families, leading to a financial crisis.

"This sum, plus the examination registration fee of Rs 800 – total Rs 2,150 – is a huge sum for us to pay. We will be virtually appearing for the exams, what's the point to charge the Centre Fees," stated a student of GCC.

The College's Students Union has further urged the college authority to lower the fees in a notice.

The authority stated, "The College is experiencing a financial crisis. Besides additional expenses, it requires to pay around Rs 4-lakhs per month towards the payment of salaries to Guest Faculties & temporary office staffs."

The authority moreover asked the students to look into the Financial Crisis. Additionally, the students have been asked to submit applications for any refund.
